Myopia is a significant global public health concern, without appropriate intervention, myopia is anticipated to affect 50% of the world’s population and 20 million Australians by 2050. Furthermore, the onset of myopia appears to be developing at a younger age, increasing the probability of progression to high myopia which carries the risk of significant visual morbidity, such as glaucoma, retinal detachment etc.

There are evidence-based myopia management options which can help to prevent onset, slow down progression of myopia in children. Main strategies of myopia control include:

  • Specialised spectacles e.g. peripheral defocus incorporated multiple segment
  • Special contact lenses e.g. orthokeratology and some options of soft contact lenses
  • Pharmaceutical agents: low dose atropine eye drops
  • Repeated low-level red light therapies (RLRL)
  • Combination of above therapies.

At EYEV Optometry, we provide professional, detailed and tailored eye test and ongoing eye care for the children.  For myopic children, systemic and personalised myopia management strategies will be discussed thoroughly with parents and delivered to our young generation to help them keep healthier eye condition and see the world clearly and comfortably.
